MMBCC News - 30 May 2012. UPDATE ALREADY

 UPDATE FROM USCHI.

Hi John,

Bit of correction for the MMBCC news...

Last Sunday was actually the last race of the MTB autumn series. We had a great turn-out and Yully put an a barbie for all of us which was fab.

We'll be posting social MTB rides on the club's Facebook group throughout the off-season (http://www.facebook.com/groups/110542298985223/ ).

And there's a weekly Wednesday evening night ride up at the Reserve from 6.30pm. All welcome - bring your own lights.

... Sorry - my fault for not getting an update through to you - too busy!

Cheers,

Usch

Hi Everyone,

Things have been a little quiet on the road scene since the Mirimbah Picnic with a number of people away. This weekend is no exception, so at this point we’ll scrap the proposed Buller Road race on Sunday . The executive is meeting on June the 13th and we’ll be discussing possible events however the Saturday and Sunday morning rides at 9am are continuing as usual.

The Mountain bike crew met last Thursday to sort out planning issues and are continuing with the Sunday events and Shannon’s posted an informal ride at the park on Wednesday nights on the facebook page.

Here are a few bits and pieces:

Shepparton Junior Tour

Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th June 2012

$1,500 total prize money plus Sashes & Trophies

Start/Finish – Mary St Dookie (Melway 922 A7, VicRoads 33 C7)

Start time – 10:00am Saturday & Sunday

Race Entry – Entry via Cycling Victoria website

Entries close Sunday June 10

Entry Fees – J11/13 - $30, J15/17 - $40

Please note; both days will start and finish in Dookie Township.

Rail Trail

It is with much delight and enthusiasm that the project team, Mansfield, Mitchell and Murrindindi Shires announce the official opening of the 134 kilometre Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail. The official opening will be held on 1 June at Molesworth. The Hon Simon Crean MP will officially open the trail at 11am.

This from Rod Squires,

I thought I’d put this out there in case anyone was interested:

Hi
I am a member of RoadSafe North East committee and we are currently working on a project called "Cycle Safety in the North East". I am writing to you as I know that you are involved in the cycling public in Mansfield.

Our group has recently conducted a survey on bike safety and hazards of bike riders throughout the North East area (I don't know if anyone in Mansfield has been involved) which was conducted by Nolan Media of Wangaratta. The results should be out shortly. I have attached a copy of the survey for your information.

Our group now wish to conduct a forum of interested people at Benalla on Monday June the 18th at 6.30 pm at the Toyota Dealership. We hope to get an array of interested people from across the region including Mansfield where I know there is a strong contingent of riders. I will also be contacting Paula Allen as I know that she rides as well. Would you please be able to recommend someone or more from your area to represent Mansfield at the forum and who are interested in improving the safety of bike riders..

A light meal will be supplied at thestart of the forum and we hope to have about 30-40 interested people involved. The findings will form the basis on where we will concentrate our resources over the next couple of years in an effort to improve safety for those cycling on our roads.

Thanks for your help and I look froward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

This weekend

Saturday

There is a bunch of us heading to Beechworth Saturday morning for a 'reccie' ride before the Six Hours In The Saddle race (12 May). A couple of hard core laps followed by woodfired pizza and a well-earned beer at the Beechworth Brewery. Anyone interested in joining let Katie (0415 369 297) know and we'll arrange a car pool. Sweet!

Below is a reminder for the Black and Tan race on this weekend.  If you are planning to race, please be at the Roadhouse by 9.30 so we can do all the handicapping and preparations for a 10am start.

Sunday 29 April (this Sunday!) - the Black & Tan

Here is the course - /maps/mansfield-ride-maps/ - scroll down to number 9 - starting at the BP Roadhouse and finishing on Graves Road.

Total distance of 31km includes two 3.5km sections of dirt, so about a quarter on dirt, three quarters on tarmac.

Bruce has donated a prize for the winner: a free entry into the 2013 SHCCC including jersey and bib knicks. Thanks Bruce!!

Then when you’ve done that………….

Sunday 12pm

Love your Trail clean-up day prior to Dirt Crits. Starts @ 12.00pm at Rifle Butts Reserve. Bring a rake, gloves and a rakehoe if you have one. It’s mainly clearing sticks and stuff off the track.

Then at 1.45………….. Autumn series of Dirt Crits. Kids races: 1:45pm register for 2pm start. Adults races: 2:15pm register for 2:30pm start. Mix of “Irish Handicap” & graded scratch races. Compete in four races to be eligible for prize draw.

Next weekend

Sunday 6 May (Sunday week) - Eildon Social Road Ride

Slight change of destination - the only decent place we can find for lunch is the Dairy Cafe in Alexandra.

So, let's change the ride to start in Alex, stop in Eildon for coffee at the Eildon Bakery Cafe (got a nice looking balcony out the back) and back to Alex for lunch at the Dairy. Meet at the Dairy café , Mansfield end of the main street,  for a 10am start (ie we’ll start riding at 10am). Please be mindful of the Café’s customers and park appropriately. If you are planning on going can you give Margaretanne a txt on 0417389249.

Here are the three options:.

Option A - 50km - difficult.

This uses the UT Creek Road from Alex to Eildon, so there' s bit more climbing and some sensational views over the lake. After a coffee, back along the relatively flat main road back to Alex. Or if you wanted to make it harder you could return via UT Creek Road!

Option B - 50km - intermediate.

This uses the Eildon Back Road between Thornton and Eildon, then the main road on the way back between Eildon and Thornton.

Option C - 25km - easy.

Park your car at Thornton, ride to Eildon via the back road, then the main road back to Thornton. Jump in the car and drive back to Alex for lunch.

MMBCC News - 17 April 2012

Hi Everyone,

End of summer season picnic day and presentations.

About eighty members, family and friends of the Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club attended the end of summer season picnic and presentations at Mirimbah Park on Sunday.

In beautiful autumn conditions some of the roadies rode from Mansfield with five really earning their lunch by going up and down Buller on the way. A mass of the mountain bike crew headed up Buller for a variety of rides before descending River Spur to meet for lunch.

Road Results

In the road season results, Tony Williams edged into the top ten on 54 points with Steve Plummer 9th on 59 points. Both were pleased to end the season with a top ten finish. Ahead on countback, Rob Greenway had a steady season on 59 and last years' winner, Craig Wilson was 7th. Craig rode well towards the end of the season rising to the "block after block" group. Jock Brega (66), Will MacDonald (68) and Andrew Gerrans(79) were all quiet achievers to fill the next placings. At the very pointy end Stefan Vaivars, Bruce Halket and Josh Hopwood had all been training consistently with a focus on the season premiership. With a tactical sprinting edge, Josh (108 points), was able to hold off Bruce(101) and Stefan(92) to take out the perpetual trophy for 2011/2012.

The Summer season ladder can be found on the web site – CLICK HERE.

MTB Results

So on to the big prize of Series winner, the top ten were as follows with Dave Bock taking out the honours after a great effort – excellent riding Dave!

1 Dave Bock

2 Kian Lerch-McKinnon

3 Tom MacMunn

4 Jason Parker

5 Paul MacNamara

6 Foley Lachal

7 Chad Meek

8 Paula MacMunn

9 Cameron Lachal

10 Nicholas Howland

Well done to everyone and great to see yet more young riders coming through the ranks.

A big thank you to everyone who turned up on Sunday and to all those who have helped out throughout the Summer Series.  Lookking forward to seeing everyone back in action for the Autumn Series starting on Sunday 22nd April – see you there!

Katies full report more pics and other awards can be found on the web site – CLICK HERE.

Thanks to Di Condie as handicapper for a good season and to the volunteers who helped week in-week out and to Katie Moore for organising a great picnic. Keep an eye on the website, mmbcc.org.au for the ongoing cycling events over Autumn.

Executive Meeting

This Wednesday 18th April, the executive are holding the monthly meeting to keep the functions of the club running. We get a fair amount of constructive feedback which we discuss at these meetings so if there’s any aspect of the club you want to provide feedback on, please contact us – John, Bruce, Tim or Katie  (contact details on the website).

Jane Diplock Ride for Cancer

Saturday 28th APRIL is the 80’s night that Jane and Di Condie are holding at the Alzburg Inn Resort in Mansfield to raise funds for the Peter Mac Ride to Conquer Cancer. They must raise $5,000 between them.

So the 80’s night is to fundraise, but it is also for everyone to come along and just have a heap of fun.  So if you are free and fancy some 80’s music and dancing, come along and boogie along.

Max Fricke

Last Friday saw great turnout for Max Fricke’s fundraising dinner.

In a continuing effort to raise those all important funds to send Max Fricke over to Europe this year to contest the World Junior Speedway Championships (Youth Gold Trophy), Mansfield Gym has very kindly donated a three month silver membership that is available to new members, valued at around $300.

We will be running a "dutch" or silent auction for this item.

All you need to do is email your bid to lisa.fricke@mansfield.vic.gov.au and the highest bidder will win.

Should there be two or more bids of the same amount, the first highest bid received will be the winner.

The auction prize includes:

Silver membership to the Mansfield Gym & Fitness Centre (13 Highett Street)

Gym use and 2 classes per week

Winner must commence prior to 30 June 2012.

This package is for new members only (excludes existing members).

Bids will be received up until 12 noon this Friday, 20 April 2012. The winner bidder will be notified by email by 4.00pm on Friday, 20 April 2012.

MMBCC News - 3 April 2012

Hi Everyone,

Quite a lot happening so have a close read! There are a few changes to the Autumn calendar so check out the latest version - CLICK HERE. The Combined end-of-summer ride and presentations is discussed further below. We need to get an idea of numbers so please read all the information and reply to Katie! There will be a few tweaks with specific times posted in the next week or so.

A good finish to the Summer road series last Thursday with the pairs time trial. Thanks  to Di for rearranging the format of the race to accommodate the number of entries. I think it worked well as a season finale.

Thanks also to all the volunteers who have helped over the season. Without your input, we’d be doing a lot less racing!

Here’s Bruce’s report for the night:

MMBCC race report

A beautiful warm Autumn evening greeted riders who’d entered the final round of the Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club Summer Series on Thursday 29 March on the Mt Buller Road.

It was meant to be a Team Time Trial contested between teams of six; but as entries were a little on the lean side, team size was reduced to just two!

The team size reduction was all part of the Handicapper’s cruel and sadistic plan to find a summer series champion. Five of the riders near the pointy end of the series point scores are from the usual Scratch group: Josh Hopwood, Stefan Vaivars, Andrew Gerrans, Mauro Brega and Bruce Halket. If the race had been ridden in teams of six as planned, those five would likely have ridden together - and all received the same result as each other.

So they were separated into teams of only two to make it more likely to get different times; and to make it much, much harder (just for the fun of it!)

Seventeen riders entered, meaning seven teams of two and a single team of three.

Fastest time and the win went to Josh and Bruce. Their time of 32.19 over the 22km translates to an average speed of 41km/h! Josh rode an awesome time trial and Bruce did all he could to hang on!

Second place went to Steve Flew, Steve Plummer and Ian Conrick in a corrected time of 32.34 (actual time 36.14.) Third went to Peter Ellett and Tony Williams in 32.41 (39.11) ahead of Di Condie and John Eisner in 32.56 (38.56) while Stefan and Mauro rounded out the top five in 33.04.

The Teams of Two Time Trial was a well-received format and it might see a return next summer. Many thanks to our volunteers and officials: Annie, Gwen, Leonie, Sharron, John and George.

All MMBCC members should make a note in their diary for Sunday 15 April. This will see social road and mountain bike rides concluding at Mirimbah - where presentations will be held for both the Summer Road Series and the Summer Dirt Crits. Check the club website - www.mmbcc.org.au - for more details in the coming weeks.

Also on the website will be details of the upcoming Autumn Series’ for both road and mountain bikes.

In the meantime, employers are asked to take pity on MMBCC members on Monday mornings in April, as they'll be sitting up late on Sunday nights for the next month, to watch the Spring Classics from Belgium and northern France. It all starts with the Tour of Flanders on Sunday 1 April, followed by Paris-Roubaix on Sunday 8 April, Amstel Gold on Sunday 15 April and finishes with Liege-Bastogne-Liege on Sunday 22 April. Simon Gerrans is a likely starter in the final two of these classics and will be a big chance!

Dirt Crits Update – 26 March

Week off Dirt Crits this week, following the end of the Summer series last week. Riflebutts Reserve has undergone some controlled burning by DSE and it has to be said that they have done a great job! The trails have been left in great condition, even the raised trail areas. There is still a concern of trees falling after the burn, so please do not enter the park if the gates are closed.

The Autum Series will kick off on Sunday 22 April at 2pm at Riflebutts. Keep an eye out for more info on the website.

Mitch has had a successful weekend riding in the 2012 Cycling Australia Junior Mountain Climbing Championships. Hi Everyone,
please find attached a copy of our updated Autumn road program, there have been a couple of changes made due to clashes with open events. Also please note that WCC have had a change of secretary, Paul Lane is now in the position and is club contact so please refer any club questions/race questions to Paul. I will still be event coordinator for the Victorian Junior Road Championships which the club has been granted the rights to host for the next 3 years.

MMBCC News - 27 March 2012

Hi Everyone,

The Summer series is drawing to a close with the last of the mountain races last night (Monday) and the team time trial coming up on Thursday.

This year we thought we’d try something different to mark traditional end of season and have a picnic/bbq at Mirimbah on Sunday, April 15th around noon. We’ll flesh out the details but mark this date in your calendar. There will be dirt crits on Buller in the morning plus a ride down river spur and a road ride from Mansfield to Mirimbah with presentations for the season (Road and Mountain) done then.

The Autumn calendar will be out shortly. I’m hoping it will be entirely online on the website. The current version is very readable and printable, just doesn’t have duty persons.

This Sunday we have the first of the Autumn road races: Whitfield Rd./Sawpit Gully/Barwite loop and finish at Graves Rd. 33km Handicap. Starting at 10am at the Botanical Park. No need to text Di, Just roll up in time for Di to do the handicapping with your usual $4/$2.

Sharron Jones is commissaire, Tim Ross – second commissaire and duty is: Geoff Jones, Uschi Steedman and Will MacDonald.

Mountain Biking

We had a fantastic turnout for the Little Person/Big Person social race on Monday night with approximately 50 people gathered at Riflebutts Reserve, ready for a fun night of racing.

The Autumn Series will kick off on Sunday 22 April at 2pm at Riflebutts. Keep an eye out for more info on the website.

Upcoming events:

Sunday April 15 – Combo Social ride at Buller!

Saturday May 12 – Six Hours In The Saddle (SHITS) race at Beechworth.

Road Racing

Thursday evening Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club riders contested the penultimate race of the summer season, a handicap race out the Whitfield Rd to Sawpit Gully Road and back, some 25km in all.

A field of just twenty riders greeted the starter, perhaps an indication that club members were ‘cycled out’ after a busy weekend of riding.

In a hectic finish eleven riders hit the line pretty much together with Josh Hopwood beating Bruce Halket by a half-wheel with Stefan Vaivars a further wheel back in third place.  Rob Greenway and Mauro Brega made up the top five.  Ride of the night though was Darren Bakker who is in something close to career-best form at the moment

Special thanks to the very big band of willing volunteers including Rod Stewart and Gwenda Tait.  This week’s team time trial on Tolmie Road is the last race of the summer season.  Entries to Di Condie on 0438 513 355 by 8pm sharp Wednesday night.

Dear Victorian Cycling Clubs,

Please forgive the group email.

Some of you may remember Warragul CC cyclist and lung cancer sufferer Karen Munro - she was one of the top female Masters track cyclists in Vic and nationally, and she almost single-handedly resurrected Warragul CC's track cycling component. She was also a strong roadie and had planned to get into MTB and Cx. She was a strong advocate for cycling in general and getting people into it.

She passed away in September last year but her cause Ride Hard to Breath Easy is being continued by a group of her friends.

Her mission was to raise awareness of the fact you don't have to be a smoker to get lung cancer and in order to continue this message, we've developed an online international month-long challenge during April using Strava.

This is a FREE challenge, unlike many others, and it it is simply designed to match Karen's mission to raise awareness for lung cancer and that you don't have to have smoked to get it.

Strava is like facebook for cyclists and you can get involved using a smart phone or a garmin.

As part of the challenge, we're asking cyclists of all levels to match or better Kaz's kms (800kms) she rode in 2011 from Adelaide to Melbourne while she was suffering from lung cancer. She did it in a fortnight, but we're asking people to do this over the month of April.

And it's perfect for the folk wanting to use it in the lead up to road or Cx season.

Shane Perkin's signed jersey is up for grabs as one of the many prizes.

Kind regards,

Caroline Page

MMBCC News - 20 March 2012

Hi Everyone,

Some fantastic cycling over the weekend, highlighting the enthusiasm of our members, the willingness of people to chip in and also another awesome result for Simon in Europe.

Congratulations to Bruce and John for putting on two really good events. Thank you also to the many volunteers who made it all happen. A lot of work goes into these events and I got a lot of good feedback on them from people around town on the Saturday and Sunday. Well done also to Di, Stefan, Jock and Alain who had a crack at the Crit/Buller race. Di had a solid result in the Crit and Stefan placed 6th in a strong field going up Buller. Thanks also to those who encouraged me on each of my solo laps around the course!

Well done again to Simon. His win in the Milan-San Remo one day event was very exciting and worth a good look at the details on his site : simongerrans.com Also have a look at the GreenEdge Backstage vid – CLICK HERE.

Back home, the Thursday Summer road series has only two races to go and it's pretty hot at the top of the ladder that will make for an interesting couple of weeks.

Road Racing

Criterium and Mt Buller Road Race

{From John Lithgow.}

What a great weekend for the club.  This year was by far the biggest event we have staged with over 400 entries, including 1 from Belgium.......we are on the international stage!

The crit had 75 A grade entries as opposed to a total entry list of 62 in 2010 one could say with a certain  confidence, that this event is well and truly on the way to becoming an major event on the Victorian calendar.  It is with great interest that Kelly Cycle Coaching had a team of 26 riders enter the event. Speaking with Helen and Bob after the event they indicated that this event could rival the Tour of Bright where entries are capped, and fill within 7 days. I can only hope.

Stephanie Ives, winner of A grade Women’s race was just delightful when Allan Gerrans presented her with the Bendigo Bank jersey signed by Simon, “can I give you a hug” she said to Allan “this is the closest I am going to get to Simon”

I was delighted with the crit and the Buller race, although there were some problems with registration I am confident these problems can be sorted in the future. Each year we get better at what we do and it is only with sound and constructive comment that we can work towards a more seamless operation.

I would personally like to thank the club members who helped make this event so successful, without you all being so accommodating the event would never have come together. My sincere thanks to all of you. John Lithgow"

RAIL TRAIL (from Bruce H).
Here's an opportunity to improve our almost complete Rail Trail.
If you're on Facebook, vote for the Mansfield project in the Environment section. It's a clunky page to vote on but if you're used to Facebook it won't be too much of a problem. (I'm fairly new to Facebook, so I've still got a headache!)
Kerstie Lee is from the local Landcare group and she's applied for funding for revegetation along the Rail Trail.
Please have a read, use the link at the bottom and vote. (Or as they say in Canberra "Vote early - vote often!")
Cheers,
Bruce.

Good morning!
I am the Landcare Facilitator from the Mansfield district (Up2Us Landcare Alliance). I applied for the Bank of Melbourne grant a few weeks ago and on Friday last week I heard that I was one in 10 who were shortlisted in the environment category in Victoria which was very exciting. However, this is the first step and now I need to generate community support so that people can vote for this project on facebook - the project with the greatest support is the one who will ultimately receive the prize.  (I never thought I would have to be a politician as a Landcare facilitator - all things to all people is our motto I guess).  Here is a little blurb about the project.

Linking the community through growing and planting

The Up2Us Landcare Network has been shortlisted for a Bank of Melbourne Grant of $10,000, which will be voted on Facebook by popular choice.

“Linking our community through growing and planting” is hoped to be a collaborative project by linking in the Mansfield Shire Council, local schools, other members of our community and corporate partners.  It would have been more apt if I had called it "Propagating a community", with the money going towards the purchase of trees and equipment.

The focus of the project will be working alongside the Agribusiness students at Mansfield Secondary College and the Mansfield Shire Council to maintain and improve the amenity of the Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail.  Included in this is an opportunity for local students to learn skills in propagating seeds growing plants, and planning for planting.

It is aimed that this will provide an easily accessible space for all schools to be involved in National Tree Day later on in the year.

With the correct vegetation, this site could provide a biolink running from Mansfield to Seymour and give the necessary habitat to save the endangered legless lizard.

Please support us in this venture and vote 1 for “Linking our community through growing and planting” on the bank of Melbourne websitewww.bankofmelbourne.com.au/thelocalproject

Thankyou so much for your support in this and pass it to as many people as you possibly can.

If you need any further information on this please feel free to contact me on the details below.

Cheers
Kerstie

*10 March - 16 March - Ride for the Little Black Dress*
*From Canberra to Melbourne *

The Jodi Lee Foundation was founded in 2010 in honour of Jodi Lee, to save
lives through increasing awareness and encouraging early detection of bowel
cancer.

In January 2011, 14 cyclists pedalled form Melbourne to Adelaide to promote
the Jodi Lee Foundation. The team raised in excess of $135,000. The impact
of the ride was not simply the funds raised, but the influence the message
of early screening had on people.

Following the success in 2011, the event is back for 2012. This year a team
of 22 cyclists and 4 support crew are planning to ride from Canberra to
Melbourne. The team will cover over 1,000 kms of challenging terrain across
New South Wales & Victoria. We have made this year's ride a little more
interesting by tackling not only The Snowies, but we will also take the
team up onto Mt Buller. We aim to raise $200,000.

Come and join the guys as they tackle Mt Buller on Wednesday 14 March.
See rideforthelittleblackdress.com

MMBCC News - 28 February 2012

Hello Everyone,

Mountain Biking

Mitch finished 2nd in the 2012 Australian MTB Championships in Adelaide last week in scorching 37 degree heat. The winner (Reece Tucknott from Western Australia) was only 35 secs in front after four laps with the rest of the field over 3 minutes behind.

This week it's off to Newcastle for the final round of the National Series where he is currently coming 4th.

He has also been named in the first ever Under 17 MTB Australian team which will head overseas later in the year.

Congratulations to Mitch from everyone at the club.

Road Racing

We had a bit of fun during the road race last week with Dave Clark having a bit of a fall.

Blood guts and everything (not really but it sound good) and a free ambo ride to Wang.

It's amazing what some will do racing for ninth place but gear failure is a hazard for all of us.

Thanks to all those who stopped and helped get him off the road.

Congrats to Craig Wilson for the win AGAIN (attention handicapper please) and we look forward to a Mt Buller road ride this week. Duty is Josh Hopwood, Lisa Fricke, and Euan Friday with Commissionaires Leonie McLaughlin and Bruce Halket. Entries to Di by 8.00pm Wednesday please.

ALSO DON'T FORGET THE CRIT RACES - 17&18 March - Click here.

Cheers,

John.

MMBCC News - 7 February 2012

Hi Everyone,

CONGRATULATIONS to Laura and Andy on the birth of HANNAH - another new member to the bike club.

Don't forget the social ride this weekend - have a look at the web site for details.

Dirt Crits Race 06/02/12
First week back for the kids at Dirt Crit. There was a big turnout with lots of excitement and the holiday spirit still in the air (along with the dust!). Great ride by all and well done to Bella MacMunn in taking first place!

Adults race was a graded scratch of the short loop course:
D grade winner (3 laps) - Kerryn MacNamara 21:13 and hot on her tail was Tina McDonnell 21:14. Great effort by Flynn Bowker (21:37) in 3rd place.

C and B grade were combined this week (6 laps) - winning spot went to Rob Greenway 32:08, 2nd was Paul MacNamara 32:22 and Jason Parker (32:31) in 3rd place.

There was some stiff competition in A grade (7 laps) with riders leaving the crowd in a cloud of dust each lap. Mitch Greenway took 1st place convincingly with 31:28, 2nd was Chad 32:41 and 3rd place went to Foley Lachal 33:26.

Well done and thanks to everyone for another great Monday night at Dirt Crits. We hope to see even more people next week - come on down for a ride and a chat - the perfect way to start the week!

Shannon and Mitch on Duty for next week 13 Feb - look out A Grade!! Graded scratch race with the course TBC.

Tolmie Sports Day

Tolmie Sports is this coming Saturday the 11th, a fun day out for the whole family. Wood chopping & horse riding competitions, markets and food stalls, arts & crafts, and games for the kids.

The club is running the Annual Tolmie Sports Dirt Crit around lunch time (12:30pm). All club riders are welcome it will be a handicap race on a short course.

We also need some more names for the 3 man challenge, the last event for the day (3:30pm) and quite the spectical!

8 riders are required to team up with a runner (who will run a short distance with a bag of chaff), and then will be teamed up with a wood chopper on the day.

Please contact Shannon (0409 552 564) or Katie (0415 369 297) by Friday if you would like to race the crit and/or the 3 man challenge.

Teams for the 3 man challenge currently consist of: Garryn (Rider) & Claire Hoffman (Runner), Dave & Katie Moore, Tina & Yully , Chad & Cam and more... Get your names in quick for a really fun race with a fair bit of laughter!

To top off a fab day, Tina has kindly offered to host a BBQ at her Barwite chalet after the Tolmie Sports day. Bring along some snags and kick back!

That's all for this week.

MMBCC News - 31 January 2012

Hi Everyone,

A quieter week this week after the action at the Tour Down Under etc.

Check out the website for details of the Whitfield social ride on Sunday 12th February and Jane Diplocks fundraising movie night next Tuesday 7 February. Both should be fun.

Roadies have a graded scratch this Thursday on the Buller Road course with Craig Wilson, Deb Cook, and Julie Dolling having their turn at duty (c:Allan Gerrans/Di Condie), and the kids are back at the Riflebutts MTB Park next Monday.

Posted a very leisurely time up Eildon Hill, 1:03:54 and an equally leisurely 1:15:00 Stonefly hut to hut. Both great riding, particularly stonefly with stacks of wildflowers happening at the moment. Also rode part of the Granny's flat to Mitchells bridle trail out of Jamieson. Anyone looking for a great, fast trail should give this a go.

Cheers , John.

MMBCC News - 24 January 2012

Hi Everyone,

Well, don't you love having the AUSTRALIAN ROAD CHAMPION and the winner of the TOUR DOWN UNDER as a member of our club. Well done Simon and don't forget that the offer of free entry into any of the Thursday night races is still open.

Talking of Thursday nights, last weeks results are now on the web site for those who missed out on a thrilling race. This week it's back to handicap racing with the start at Botanic Park (entries to Di by 8.00pm Wednesday please) and because it is Australia Day we are having a BBQ afterwards at the Botanical Park – all welcome and BYO everything.

The SOCIAL committee has been hard at work and have announced their next ride - WHITFIELD SOCIAL RIDE - SUNDAY 12TH FEBRUARY. Various options so have a look at the web site for details (CLICK HERE).

Congratulations also must go to our Mountain bikers who competed at Mt Buller on the weekend - Mitch Greenway, Foley Lachel and Stefan Vaviers in the XC racing and Issac Heppell in the Down Hill.  Next week is a handicap race for the adults and Chad and Frank doing duty.

MMBCC News - 17 January 2012

Hi Everyone,

The road racing got off to a good start last week with three strong bunches for the graded scratch albeit in some pretty windy conditions and the Mountain Bikers started their post Christmas racing last night at the Riflebutts MTB Park.

We are still looking for volunteers for this weekends Mt Buller National Mountain Bike round. You would be required to Marshall at certain check points throughout the weekend and we need 15 each day. The Club will get significant money if we fill all the places. Please contact Ben Annear on ben.annear@mtbuller.com.au

We have also started a new Challenge Ride – Stonefly Hut to Hut. Have a look on the site under Ride&Races and be the first to email Mark with your time. There have also been a couple of updates since last time so have a look and 'avago.

I am sure you are as disappointed as I am about SBS losing the Tour Down Under coverage and Channel 9 showing highlights at 11.00pm or after BUT, if you go the this page (wwos.ninemsn.com.au/cycling/) they will show highlights at 7.00pm each night. It will be live on Channel 9 next Saturday and Sunday though for everyone to SEE SIMON WIN.

Talking of Simon, we have put his photo up permanently on the front page of the site.

ROAD RACING

We did have an issue though with C grade which I'd like to mention here as well as prior to racing this week. One cyclist was dropped well within the outgoing neutral zone resulting in a pretty lonely remainder of the race. As a result the commissaires decided to award Sue with first place and the rest of C grade a standard attendance point. It was probably inadvertent, however as we say at the start, "it's not for sheep stations". We have developed these local rules over the years to improve safety and also to make the racing fair and fun, so please be mindful when out there on the road and well done Sue for some tenacious riding.

Don't forget to check ahead with the roster so the person in charge of duty the following week is in a position to take all the boxes and signs home. Thia week - Dave Clark, Andy Setchell, Mark Calvert-Jones.

Anyone who hasn't got their 2012 licence – you will not be racing. See /join-now for details on how to renew.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

The MTN crew started back last night and have a good read of the rest of the website - there's lots happening.

Hopefully you will be able to help Ben this Friday Saturday and Sunday at Mt Buller for the races.
