Road Racing Report

MMBCC race report

It’s not often the Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club attracts a crowd to watch a race. With the Great Victorian Bike Ride in town for a couple of nights we not only attracted a couple of extra entries to our usual Thursday night Handicap race… they brought their own cheer squad!

First away from the start line at the Botanic Park, surrounded by a thronging mass, was Di Condie off 16 minutes; she was followed by Rod Manning two minutes later.

Four groups were next: David Bock, Steve Flew, Craig Wilson and John Eisner off 9:00; Steve Plummer, Dave Moore, Will MacDonald and Anthony Plummer off 6:00; Bruce Halket, Darren Bakker, Mauro Brega, Paul Lange, Grant Harvey and Craig Skinner (both from Seymour who brought along their ‘entourage’) off 2:00; and the Scratch group was made up of Mitch Greenway, Foley Lachal and Kian Lerch-McKinnon.

Scratch started really strongly and had caught ‘block’ at around halfway. Once this group of eight got themselves organised, they reeled almost all the rest of the field.

Along the Barwite Road was where Harvey put the pressure on with an attack just before the Old Tolmie Road turn; and the only one to respond was Greenway (now that exams are out of the way and he’s signed for the Torq-Merida team, it seems the bike is back on the agenda!) All the rest of us could do was to limit the damage.

In cycling circles, a ‘vet’ is usually a term for a ‘veteran’ – an older racer who often lives by the motto “the older I get, the better I was!” However, in this case it was ‘Vet-erinarian’ Rod Manning who was proving he’s like a good bottle of red, genuinely getting better with age.

As Greenway powered up ‘the Coombesberg’ to the finish line, he couldn’t quite bridge the gap and Manning held on by about 10 metres (a whole two seconds!) to take a brilliant win.

Greenway took second (and fastest time of 44.06) ahead of Lerch-McKinnon, Harvey, Skinner, Halket, Lachal, Steve Plummer, MacDonald and Bock rounded out the top ten point-scoring positions.

Many thanks to our officials and volunteers: Leonie, Tony, Jenni, Tim, Mark, Peter, Di, Mauro and, of course, Francesca.

The MMBCC’s Summer Series continues on Thursday 11 December with a Team Time Trial along Howes Creek Road. It’s followed by the final race of the year, the Cycling-Inform Handicap, on Thursday 18 December with over $200 in prizemoney up for grabs. As usual, entries via SMS to 0438 513 355 by 8pm on the Wednesday before please.

Cheers,

Bruce.

Register of Incidents

After the unfortunate incident involving Alain last week, the club thinks it's time we re-introduced our 'register of incidents'. If you're out riding on the road and you have ANY kind of incident with a vehicle, the police (and the club) want to know.

As soon as you get back from your ride, email a brief description of the incident including time, date and location to Bruce via bruce@bikevents.com.au (No SMS - only by email please.) Even include a description of the car and/or rego number if you can.

Bruce will put together all the incidents into a spreadsheet and give this to the police every few months. This way they'll have a record of any patterns of behaviour or certain sections of road which seem to be causing trouble.

We've done this for the police in the past and we think it will be useful to do this again… for everyone's safety.

Club knicks runout

We've decided we've been hanging on to the club kit for too long. Besides, during our ride for Alain last week, it was good to see so many out in MMBCC kit. There should be more of it!

Bib knicks have been reduced from $130 to now just $75.

Standard knicks have also been reduced from $120 to just $60!

Plus you'll get a free pair of MMBCC socks with each pair of shorts you buy!

Contact Fiona Greenway on fgreenwa@bigpond.net.au or 0458 316 465 to get yours now!

Here is a wrap up of the latest mountain biking news.

 Dear Dirt Critters,

The Passing of Alain Guerin

Alain was a member of the Mansfield cycling community who was tragically killed recently while riding on the Mount Buller road.

On Thursday 13th November a road ride for solidarity was held in Alain’s honour from the Botanic Park out the Whitfield road and back. More than 80 cyclists, including members of Alain’s family, participated in the ride.

Last Sunday a celebration of Alain’s life was held at the Delatite Hotel.

Dirt Crits Race 6- Long Course

Cam ran the ‘Long Course’ event last Monday night, which consisted of two or three laps of a course which used both the front and back parts of the MTB Park. Twenty-five riders turned up to race with a large contingent from Mt Buller joining in.

The field was divided into an ‘A’ group and a ‘B’ group. ‘A’ group riders completed either two or three laps of the ‘longer’ course and ‘B’ group riders completed two laps of the ‘shorter’ course.

In Group A Ethan Lee was fastest (51.55), 2nd place was Aaron Sargeant (53.17) and 3rd place was Jem Davies (54.45). Group B was taken out by Frank David (53.37) 2 laps, 2nd place was Anthony Plummer (58.02) 2 laps and in 3rd place was Ryan De La Rue (1.00.23) 3 laps!

Dirt Crits Race 7- Enduro

It was looking fairly bleak an hour before the start of the senior event this week. However, the weather cleared up and the track soaked up the rain nicely.

Shannon ran the Enduro event, assisted by Dave and Tom MacMunn. The riders were able to ride two laps of the downhill course with both times being combined to create a total time. The riders were split group ‘A’ and ‘B’.

Group ‘A’- 1st place was Ryan De La Rue, with Foley coming home in 2nd place and Kian rounded out the podium. Cam L, Mike D, Brett S, Tom Emery-Evans, Anthony P and Andrew W filled 4th-9th place.

Group ‘B’- In 1st place was Aaron Sargeant, 2nd was Dave Bock and 3rd was Jem Davies. Harry Retief and Noah Lachal finished next and Rod Sargeant completed one run of the course.

It was great to see Bella MacMunn back on the bike as well.

If style points were given out this week Aaron Sargeant and Jem Davies would have won hands down- nice work boys!

Alain Guerin
Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club would like to acknowledge the tragic passing of our treasured, respected and inspirational colleague Alain Guerin.
In honour of Alain, the club will be suspending usual racing on Thursday 13 November. In its place a Ride of Solidarity will take place commencing at 6pm (meeting at 5.45) from the Mansfield Botanic Park.
Everybody who rides a bike is welcome to join us.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Alain's family at this time.

Benalla Road. November 2014

A field of 27 cyclists fronted up for the fast and furious Benalla road handicap last Thursday evening. Dave Clark and Di Condie were first off pursued by Rod Manning, Tony Morris and Andrew Calvert-Jones. The bigger group of Tony Williams, Tim Hall, David Bock, Ian Conrick, Craig Wilson and John Eisner were next and after some settling the group worked well to reel in the out markers who were feeling the heat after the turnaround. Will MacDonald, Christine Hopkins and Alain Guerin formed the next group with Cam Lachel, Jason Parker and Anthony Plummer chasing them. Damian Grundy, Paul Lange, Darren Bakker and David Heatley were next with Jock Brega, Kian Lerch-McKinnon, Matt Young and Bruce Halket forming the block group. Josh Hopwood and Mitch Greenway were last off in scratch. Riding well, MacDonald and Hopkins joined the merged faster groups who had dropped several riders by the turnaround. Halket set a pace coming back past Duerin lane that dropped the mid field but was leaving something in reserve for the inevitable attack on the final hill. Predicatably the attack came and it was a nice move by Kian that saw him gain fifty meters off the front which he held for a well deserved win. Bakker chased and looked for help but none was forthcoming and the run down the hill was filled with a certain amount of elbows and positioning for the minor sprint finish. David Heatley got up for second place followed by Bakker, Brega, Halket, MacDonald, Lange, Eisner and Hopkins with Cam Lachal taking out tenth. Fastest time on the night was shared between Josh and Kian. Thanks to our crew of volunteers and the Delatite Hotel for providing a relaxing venue to rehydrate and analyse the race form. This week’s race is a 4 up sprint on Graves road. Entries to Di by Wednesday 8pm please. previously...... . .

Masochism. There’s a fair bit needed to be good at the Individual Time Trial. Those members of the Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club who are keen on self flagellation lined up on Chapel Hill Road on Thursday 30 November for 11km of pain* out to Three Chain Road and back.

First away was Jodie Batchelor (resplendent in her new ‘aero’ helmet) on the comeback trail after injury. Another 19 sickos followed her at one-minute intervals.

Unsurprisingly, Josh Hopwood rode the fastest time of 15 minutes and 46 seconds. Closest to that was Tristan with 16:19 followed by Bruce Halket, Matt Young, Darren Bakker and Paul Lange as the only others to break 18 minutes.

However, with Handicaps taken into account, Josh also took the win, which was only slightly less surprising. He was followed in the final results by Halket (16:00), David Bock (16.05), Lange (16.08) and Young (16.18). Mioni, Alain Guerin, Bakker, Damian Grundy and Cam Lachal rounded out the top ten.

Many thanks to our officials and volunteers: John, Tony W, Tony M and Will. I’m sure they all volunteered this week since it’s easy to organise a Time Trial and so they could avoid the masochism. Or perhaps they’re just sadists!

The MMBCC’s Summer Series continues on Thursday 6 November with next Handicap Race along Benalla Road, starting at Dead Horse Lane. Entries via SMS to 0438 513 355 by 8pm Wednesday please.

*The pain isn’t really that bad… I’m just a whinger.

Dear Dirt Critters,

Here is a wrap up of the latest mountain biking news.

Dirt Crits Race 3- Irish Handicap

Will McDonald and Trevor Arnold ran the senior event last week with 15 riders starting. It was great to see Jodie Batchelor back on the mountain bike and feeling confident after a clinic with Shannon, which contributed to taking out 1st place. Keoni Bruner rode well to finish in 2nd place. Keoni and his family have relocated to down on the Peninsula and are making the trip up each week to race Dirt Crits- That’s commitment! Taking out 3rd place was relative newcomer Ethan Lee- Well done! Janine Appleton also showed that she can ride strongly on the road bike and MTB, finishing in 8th place.

Mont 24hr MTB Race

The Bike Buller team competed in the Mont 24hr MTB race this weekend. The riders were- Kian Lerch-Mackinnon, Matt Young, Cam Lachal, Anthony Bock, David McCoombe and Rohan Essex. This is a relay race with one rider representing the team on the course all of the time. The team of six category is always the most competitive category, so the boys did really well to finish in 7th place, covering 497km!

Enve Victorian Gravity Enduro Series- Barjarg

It was great to go out to Barjarg to watch our local riders compete in the Victorian Gravity Enduro event. Our vantage point was looking down into the gully that the riders rode through, always a great spectator spot.

Our local riders had a great weekend of racing-

1st Dave Empey (Super Masters),

1st Matthew Empey (U13) (pictured right),

1st Shannon Rademaker (Veteran 30-40) (pictured left) and Graham Slaney.

Dirt Crits this week

This week, Monday 27th October, Shannon Rademaker will be running the Dirt Crits event at Riflebutts MTB park. The format will be two timed runs of an Enduro style course, which is predominantly downhill.

Hi Everyone,

Bruce has done a great job getting the road calendar up and going. It should appear under "Road Racing" to the left. Please note that there are a few spots left to fill in December for duty so have a look at those and let Bruce know if you can fill the positions.

Jason is keeping us up to date with the dirt crit report ( see below for the full report and check out the club's facebook site). Apologies for lack of pictures - I'm still learning to drive the site, Cheers, John.

Dear Dirt Critters, Here is a wrap up of the latest mountain biking news. Race 2 Kate Empey ran the senior event last week with seventeen senior riders. Jem Davies made a welcome return to Dirt Crits and has obviously been working on his fitness, as he came away with 1st place- Well done! In 2nd place was Keoni Bruner and in 3rd was Harry Retief in his second race. Ethan Lee, 4th place, was joined by his dad, Mark, this week. Nick Watson might have also been doing some training as well, finishing in 5th place. A notable performance was Kody Appleton’s top ten placing after stepping up to the senior event- Well done Kody! Matthew and Dave Empey News on the grapevine is that Matt and Dave raced at Warbuton in the first State Gravity event recently. Matt had his first win in the U13 category and Dave took out the Super Masters Category. Dave also raced in Cairns at Round 6 of the Australian Gravity Enduro series and finished 1st. This is Dave’s fourth 1st place and as a results secured him the National series in his category- Congratulations! Barjarg Victorian Enduro Series 6hr/3hr The sixth round of the Victorian Enduro series, hosted by Alpine Gravity, in association with Specialised and All Terrain Cycles, has been run and won. From all accounts it was a tough course with a lot of climbing and quite long and technical descents. MMBCC race report

The Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club summer season for 2014/2015 kicked off on Thursday 9 October with a Graded Scratch Race on the Whitfield Road. 27 riders were on the start line, at the Botanic Park for the 25km journey out to Sawpit Gully Road and back, to try to work off some of the internal insulation built up over winter.

First race to start was C Grade which saw Tony Morris battle it out with Amy Jewson in a somewhat ‘lean’ field of just two. Youth won out against wisdom with Amy taking the cash; a win in her first race marking a fine start to her MMBCC membership!

10 A-Graders were next on the start line. A patient start mean no one tried any serious moves until the road headed slightly upwards. Mitch Greenway and Josh Hopwood were the first to attack, just after Bridge Creek, with Foley Lachal the only one able to bridge across.

The rest of the bunch got organised and chased for the next few kilometres; swapping turns at the front to peg back the leaders, which was finally successful by Long Lane on the way back to town.

After a few small attacks, which strung out the field but didn’t produce lasting affects, the finale came down to a bunch sprint. Darren ‘Cipolini’ Bakker took the win so comfortably that he didn’t even need to stand to sprint! He finished just ahead of Mauro ‘Back in Town’ Brega and Lachal from Greenway, Jarrod Appleton and Hopwood.

B-Grade saw the biggest field of the night with 16 starters. True to expectations, there was an attack as soon as the neutral zone was completed at top of the Barwite Hill; Jason Parker, Anthony Plummer, Dave Moore and Matt Young putting the hammer down and gapping the rest of the field.

The status quo was maintained until just after Bridge Creek where Young just kept the same tempo up the climb and the others couldn’t go with him. Game over!

The other three got picked up by the bunch soon after; Will MacDonald took the bunch sprint for second ahead of Parker.

Special mention to Tony Williams who sprinted for 12th place over the top of Craig Wilson and John Eisner after the two had done all the work back into town. He must have been saving his energy for something else!

Many thanks to our officials and volunteers: Jodie, Dave, Jenni, Ian and Julie. We couldn’t race without you.

The MMBCC’s Summer Series continues on Thursday 16 October with the summer’s first Handicap Race along Benalla Road, starting at Dead Horse Lane. Entries via SMS to 0428 503 437 by 8pm Wednesday 5 February please.

Duty Roster

This week Rod Sargeant and David Bock are on duty.

Cheers,

Bruce.

Also...

congratulations to club Commissaires Margaretanne Hood and Tony Williams on formalising their cycling credentials by getting married!

Some news......

G'day All,

It's that time of year again… time to dust off the road bike, increase the heart rate and lose some of that internal insulation you gained over winter.

We've got a few changes happening this summer. Here's a rundown on some of them.

Tail lights

From now on in an MMBCC road race, all racers MUST have a tail light on their bike. Here's the policy from Cycling Victoria:

"For all open road events (i.e. events not run under a rolling road closure or closed road conditions) sanctioned by Cycling Victoria, competitors must have a red light operating on either the seat post or right rear seat stay of their bike.  The light must be operational during the entire event and must visible from 200 metres to the rear."

MMBCC races are sanctioned by CV so you need a red tail light on your seat post or right rear seat stay to race. Sorry, a light on a rear jersey pocket or helmet won't do.

No light - no start.

Bunch Rides

Once Daylight Savings starts, ALL bunch rides will leave from the Botanic Park - not the roundabout car park!

Parking is easier, there are still toilets available and it's a bit more aesthetically pleasing than the roundabout car park. But mainly it's about keeping all the road riders together. We can have two bunches and you can choose which speed you'd prefer to ride at (depending on who you talk to, the speeds of the two groups are "slow" and "a bit slower"!)

As of Saturday 4 October, all bunch rides will leave the Botanic Park at 8am.

(Where you go for coffee afterwards is up to you. Speaking personally, I'll go to the Produce Store to support Dean and Gil who have been strong supporters of the club for a long time. Besides, my hearing is so bad I can't hear a thing at the Coffee Merchant!)

We're also going to try to include a few rides out of town - drive somewhere else for a bit first, then ride. Destinations might include Jamieson, Swanpool and Strathbogie.

Memberships

To race (or ride regularly) on the road you need a Cycling Australia membership of the MMBCC. This is a calendar year membership but is available from Oct 1 each year. (No, memberships for 2015 aren't' available yet - I'm just giving you plenty of warning.)

AND… if you join CA after Oct 1, you'll get the rest of 2014 included in your 2015 membership fee.

Fees vary, depending on your age and the type of riding you want to do. And without any doubt, the easiest way to join or renew is online.

Information on memberships, including fees, can be found here:

http://www.cycling.org.au/Membership/Join-or-Renew-today

and make sure you select Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club as the club you want to join.

If you prefer, you can still fill in a form and do this manually. However, it will cost $5 more to do it this way now. For the moment, see Bruce at All Terrain Cycles or AFTER a Thursday night race to get a form. (Don't ask him about joining just before a Thursday night race, get organised and sort it out earlier!) To download your own copy of the membership form go to http://www.cycling.org.au/Membership/Member-Forms - make sure you select the 2015 membership form.

Cycling Victoria have very generously offered us the Regional Discount membership again, which are a little bit cheaper. If you don't think you'll race with another club, you can take one of these memberships - which used to be known as Club Only, as they're to be used only for your own clubs' races. These memberships can only be done via a manual form and will still incur an extra $5 admin fee.

Speaking of memberships, we're looking for a club volunteer to help co-ordinate road memberships. Please contact Bruce for more details - bruce@bikevents.com.au - if you'd like to help out.

Race Marshals

We're going to try a new roster system for this summer. Instead of me putting your name on the roster, you get to choose which race you do.

Each Thursday night race will now have a head marshal who is an experienced club member. Six of us will take turns to organise the Thursday night race. And we'll still be able to race… as long as there are enough others to help out.

That's where you come in!

At the first couple of races of the summer (Thu 9 Oct on the Whitfield Rd and Thu 16 Oct on the Benalla Rd) we'll have a list of all the races until Christmas with space for two marshals to be filled in. You need to put your name on at least one race between now and Christmas.

Don't be shy - everyone will get a go! The sooner you add your name, the sooner you get your race duty out of the way. Remember: no marshals, no race!

Racing in Wangaratta

WCC are again hosting a Spring Series and their calendar looks impressive. There'll likely be a few of us head over to Wang to race every now and again. Let me know if you're interested. And as we're an invited club, a Regional Discount membership is still valid - so you have no excuse to only race in Mansfield!

Cheers,

Bruce Halket.

MMBCC News - 11th May 2014

Hi Everyone,

A few bits of news:

We had a first attempt at the winter road series last Sunday and athough there were enough keen starters we didn't have enough volunteers to run it safely.

The next race is on the 15th of June and we really only need a commissaire and a couple of others to make it work. It is a busy time of year for a lot of people but if you are keen to race regularly it'd be good if you could invest in one weekend to volunteer marshal or round up someone who can. If you are happy to do this please let Bruce or myself know so we can put it on the fixture.

Thanks to Steve who ran around and got the new club trailer and along with Bruce, sorted out the contents. Well done.

This from Lou Bretherton:

As some of you may or may not have seen, I have just started a new fitness class in Mansfield called, Metafit.

Metafit is a 30min bodyweight workout- High intensity Interval training session.

 It is designed to

-work major muscle groups functionally

-deplete glycogen stores

-create a metabolic disturbance

-Increase RMR (resting metabolic rate)

-Increase fat burning

With the weather not always favourably at this time of year, which means road riding is not always possible, although mountain bike & BMX is ideal at this time it is great to be able to have another option to maintain your bike fitness in terms of leg strength and cardio vascular fitness.

I would like to offer the MMBCC followers an exclusive class once a week. This is not just for females, believe me all you male riders out there would well and truly benefit from this class, it is your own workout so you can take it very much at your own pace.

Take a look at the below youtube clip, even come along to my current Tuesday 5.15pm or Thursday 7am class held at the sporting stadium to see if its for you. If we can get enough people together we will run a cycle club session.

MMBCC News - 23 March 2014

Hi Everyone,

In a huge weekend of relaxed and competitive cycling in perfect autumn weather, 630 cyclists turned up to take part in the Scody High Country Cycle Challenge as part of the Tour de Flavour weekend. Organiser , Bruce Halket noted that over 500 climbed Buller with many heading out to Jamieson as well before returning to town making it a very busy time in the main street. Continuing the festive vibe was the Mansfield Community Bank’s Criterium held up and down High Street on the Saturday afternoon. Over eighty cyclists took on the demanding course with some spectacular racing. Locals, Jodie Batchelor, Craig Wilson, Stefan Vaivars , Mitch Greenway and Anthony Plummer were brave enough to compete against a strong field of state level cyclists across several grades. Mitch Greenway had a spectacular third place finish with an impressive breakaway attempt half way through the race. Stefan and Anthony felt the heat in their grades and Jodie and Will were pleased with their results.
Sunday saw the Cycling Club host the second in the Victorian Road series with a race from Mansfield to Buller. With around 300 cyclists in nine grades the heat was applied in most groups from the start. Again Mitch Greenway did well to place 6th and Josh Hopwood equal 8th. Alain Guerin was the most senior cyclist in the whole field at 75 but still looked fresh at the chilly finish in the Village square.
Thanks to The Mansfield Community Bank, to the Mt Buller Resort, Ros Ritchie Wines and to many of our other sponsors and the great team of helpers over the weekend. Special thanks to Di Condie for a great organising effort and to Bruce Halket for his support. Thanks too , to all our residents who kept a good eye out on the roads over the weekend for all the cyclists. It’s a great, healthy event for Mansfield that really puts back in and helps in part to support our junior cyclists.

Regards, John.

MMBCC News - 18 March 2014. ******** IMPORTANT UPDATE *********

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a little while since I wrote an actual newsletter ( as opposed to the weekly race reports) and thanks to Mark and Bruce and Jason for putting up bits of info on an ongoing basis.

I’ll partly blame the fact that there has been a lot going on and it’s great to see that the weekly races are being attended with enthusiasm.  I made it to a dirt crits night last week and it was good  to see lots of kids having a crack as well as the adults. Similarly, Damian Grundy’s kids road race initiative a few weeks ago was a lot of fun and a good format for future similar events.

It was a while ago now but thanks again to Tina and Macca for putting on the Christmas party out at the maze – it was a very relaxing day. Have a look at the website for details as the end-of-season event will be held on Sunday the 6Th April at the Grazebrook winery in the King Valley. Thanks to Steve for organising this. Check out the separate info – there are various road and MTN events planned with a lunch and presentations at the Winery. Note that it’s NOT a BBQ as the venue has plenty of food. CLICK HERE for further details.

Well done to our younger club members Mitch and Kian. They have done really well at a number of recent national events and it’s great that the club can help them in a small way to achieve these results. Well done also to our other club members – Shannon , Dave Empey et al who have also been right up there at various events . I’m very proud that Simon Gerrans  has been going so well also and I think there will be plenty of members keeping a keen eye on him as the European season continues.

Finally, for the moment, there is a lot happening this week starting with the clubs film night tonight. The Scody High Country Cycle Challenge kicks off as well on the weekend and the club’s highlight events – the Mansfield Criterium and Road Race start Saturday afternoon. A very big thanks to Di Condie and the team for putting this together. It’s a lot of work and we are very lucky to host a terrific set of events in our spectacular home town.

Hi all,

THE ARMSTRONG LIE this coming Wednesday (19 March).
In 2009 director Alex Gibney set out to make a documentary film on Lance Armstrong's comeback year after a four-year retirement from professional road cycling. Following a doping investigation that led to his lifetime ban from competition and the stripping of his seven Tour de France titles, Armstrong went back to Gibney to set the record straight about his career.
This Wednesday 19 March at 7.30 at the Mansfield Armchair Cinema.

Discounted ticket prices for MMBCC members, drinks at bar prices and food can be arranged if you book ahead - call the MAC on 57752049 to order.
See you there!
WEDNESDAY 19 MARCH 7.30.

RESULTS

Jason has kept the results up for the MTBers and the Roadies will get a surprise when the season winner is announced at the BBQ lunch on 6 April.

Only a couple of races left so good luck.

MMBCC News 10 December

Mitch's Tour of Bright Results and Christmas Party reminder.

Another great result for Mitch Greenway in the Tour of Bright.

Here it is in his own words (more pic's below) :-

A huge thank you to my fellow MMBCC members who were there and offered me encouragement and support at the various stages of the 2013 Tour of Bright.

I could hear Josh Hopwood and Bruce Halket cheering madly as I crossed the line in Stage 1 of the ITT.

Di Condie stayed after her Commissaire duties to watch my Tawonga Gap Stage 2 finish and offered words of encouragement to keep riding hard and t o stay focused.

Acting as B Grade Commissaire on his motorbike and watching my entire race in the Stage 3 Mt Hotham ascent was Tom Thoburne. I was rapt with my 4th place in the stage and it was great that Tom was there to see me achieve it!

I was happy to finish 5th in the GC and make the podium of Elite Mens B Grade. Thank you for being there for me – it made my overall result and achievement that bit more special.

Thanks Mitch
