G'day Everyone!

"Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to cycle and he will realise fishing is stupid and boring." (supposedly) Desmond Tutu.

Big Weekend

As president of the club I'd like to thank everybody who got involved in the running of both the Crit and the Road Race this weekend just gone. Even though I wasn't directly involved, it all seemed to go really well and feedback has been great.

As an indication, Laurie Noonan the Chief Commissaire, wrote his report to Cycling Victoria and included the following conclusion:

"These were very well-run events considering the size of the club involved. A weekend of cycling including the ‘Participation’ rides gave the town a great atmosphere and I believe it has the potential to grow into a major event on the Victorian Road calendar. This club and this event should be fully supported by Cycling Victoria in all aspects."

Congratulations to all of you!

Well done too to Deb Hunter, Josh Hopwood and Steffan Vaivars for great results in the Road Race.

Next, as organiser of the SHCCC, I'd also like to thank all of you that supported my rides over the weekend … but especially those of you that gave your time to help run the event. A big, big thank you to you!

Who wants to play Doctors and Nurses?

The Mansfield Murray to Moyne Cycle relay Team are holding a Dinner Dance on Saturday at 7.30pm at the Mansfield Golf Club, with all profits going to the Mansfield District Hospital. Tickets are $25 per head which includes live band ‘The Strap Ons’ and supper. Drinks at bar prices.

Come dressed as your favourite Doctor or Nurse and enjoy a night of fun and frivolity as we dance, cheer on our favourite ant and perhaps buy a slave at the slave auction!!

Recreational Ride this Sunday

If you you recover from the night before, the next recreational ride is being held on Sunday morning, starting at 10am. Lunch is at the Lakeside Hotel, Jamieson (yes, the brewery.)

There are four distance options:
25km - Lakeside Hotel to Kevington and back.
33km - Howqua Inlet to Kevington, then to Lakeside Hotel.
55km - Mansfield to Jamieson, then Eildon Road climb and back to hotel.
90km - Mansfield to Jamieson, then Eildon Road climb and back to hotel; then back to Mansfield after lunch!

If you'd like to join in for lunch at the Lakeside and the ride to get there, please email Jenni Sparnon jenni.sparnon@gmail.com by 8pm Thursday, so we have an idea of numbers. (Don't tell me at tomorrow night's road race, I'll just forget. You need to email Jenni.)

Change of name

In case you weren't aware, CycleSport Victoria has changed its name to Cycling Victoria.
This now brings Victoria in to line with most other states and the national body, Cycling Australia.
However, I'm sure there'll now be even more confusion between Cycling Victoria and Bicycle Victoria.

That's all for now … see you out there.

Cheers,
Bruce Halket.
