The 2020 Mansfield Subaru Tour is cancelled.
With COVID-19 cases on the rise, Cycling Victoria and the Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club have decided to cancel this year’s race, which was due to start on Saturday.
Even though we were unlikely to get to the government mandated maximum of 500 people, we still think this is the right thing to do. The number of people travelling to Mansfield, particularly from interstate, would have negated any community health benefits of social distancing.
Instead of having a cancellation forced upon us at the last moment, we decided it was prudent to give everyone plenty of notice.
In the meantime, you’ve seen and heard all the health warnings - wash your hands properly, and often, and cover your cough.
Once we’re all over this, we’ll start planning a bigger and better Mansfield Tour for later in 2020 or 2021.
In 2020 the Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club will host the Mansfield Subaru Tour on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March.
Changes for 2020
The Stage One Individual Time Trial is now an out-and-back course and will have a full road closure. It starts in the same spot as previously and now finishes there as well. Please note: with the full road closure there will be no cars allowed on the course!
Time bonuses towards the GC for the All Terrain Cycles Sprints on Stages 2 and 3 have been increased! Last year they were 30, 20 and 10 seconds - in 2020 they’ll be 60, 45 and 30 seconds!

Spectator recommendations
Stage 1
On top of the “Coombesberg” - the steep pinch on Old Tolmie Road. Riders will be seen twice, once in each direction. But remember, there will be a full road closure for this stage. You either need to drive out before the ITT starts, walk the 4.5km from the start line or walk about 1km from the turnaround.
Stage 2
Photographers, get to the top of Corn Hill, near the corner of Buttercup Road and take some great shots of riders climbing up Corn Hill, heading back to Mansfield with Mt Buller in the background.
Drive up Old Tolmie Road, turn left onto Melba Road and park. Walk back down and cheer the riders on the steepest part of the “Col du Tolmielet”.
Head up to the finish, turn left onto Tabletop Road for parking and cheer them across the line. There’ll be a coffee van at the top with the espresso machine ready to go!
Stage 3
Get up to Mt Buller to cheer the riders as they cross the line. But remember, the road will close at the base of the mountain to all but official race traffic at 8am.
